Academic Status and Recognition

The Academic Value of Degrees Issued by Istituto Prisca Sapientia

An International Vision of Higher Education

Istituto Prisca Sapientia, based in Zurich (Switzerland), is an independent academic association registered with the Zurich Commercial Register (CHE-316.608.522).
The Institute promotes advanced education, research, and scientific dissemination in cultural, artistic, technological, and social fields, inspired by the principles of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and the Swiss academic tradition of freedom and interdisciplinarity.

A Private Academic Institution under Swiss Law

Under Swiss law, private academic institutions such as associations or foundations may freely operate in the fields of education and research.
Istituto Prisca Sapientia fully falls within this framework: it is a non-profit private institution established to promote academic excellence and international scientific collaboration.

This means that the Institute may legally organize courses, master’s programs, private doctoral programs, and research activities, and may issue its own academic diplomas and certifications.

Official Documents and Issued Degrees

The Institute issues:

  • Private Master’s and PhD Diplomas, related to advanced study and research programs;
  • Certificates of Merit and Participation;
  • Academic appointment and fellowship letters;
  • Scientific publications and conference proceedings.

All documents are official acts of the Institute, signed by its legal representative and recorded in internal academic registers.
They hold private legal validity as official documents of a Swiss-registered entity and international academic value consistent with the quality standards recognized within the European Higher Education and Research Area.

Legal Value vs. Academic Value

It is important to distinguish between:

  • Legal value, which in Switzerland and Italy applies only to degrees issued by state or officially accredited universities (AAQ in Switzerland, MUR in Italy); and
  • Private academic value, which pertains to independent institutions such as Prisca Sapientia, operating freely within the higher education sector under the constitutional principle of academic and research freedom.

Degrees issued by Prisca Sapientia do not replace state university qualifications, but represent private academic credentials recognized internationally as advanced educational achievements — often acknowledged by universities, research institutions, and companies as merit-based or professional qualifications.

Transparency and International Recognition

Every diploma and certificate issued by the Institute clearly states:

“Private academic degree issued by Istituto Prisca Sapientia, an independent academic association under Swiss law (CHE-316.608.522), in compliance with the standards of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
The degree has private and international academic value and does not constitute a state-recognized university qualification under the Swiss Federal Higher Education Act (HEdA / LEHE).”

This level of transparency ensures full legal compliance and facilitates de facto recognition of the degrees in international academic and professional contexts.

Istituto Prisca Sapientia represents a model of independent and international higher learning, founded on research, ethics, and the pursuit of knowledge.
While not a state university, it offers programs of equivalent academic depth, aligned with European standards of quality and transparency.

The Institute’s mission is to promote wisdom as a common good and to build bridges between research, culture, and innovation, fostering collaboration among scholars, educators, and professionals worldwide.
